Course Overview
This program will provide an overview of the management of injured patients with a focus on recent trends and the latest best practices for selected injuries. Specific topics for discussion will include management of complex liver injuries, current indications for resuscitative thoracotomy, and the prevention and management of retained hemothorax. Additional discussions will focus on breaking bad news, how to interpret thromboelastography, and management of compartment syndrome.

Objectives
  1. Review the principles of damage control resuscitation for trauma
  2. Describe the indications and practice of resuscitative thoracotomy
  3. Describe methods for prevention and management of a retained hemothorax
  4. Identify signs of compartment syndrome
  5. Define strategies for prognostication for patients with traumatic brain injury
