Course Overview

The conference will consist of 5 sessions, each with an expert panel teaching each other and the audience about an aspect of fetal cardiology with a focus on both cardiac and maternal fetal medicine aspects of care. Topics include vein of Galen malformation, fetal arrhythmia, monochorionic twins, complex ventricular anatomy, and vascular rings. We will also hold a live fetal echocardiogram workshop to gain hands on experience.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the best approach to diagnosing and treating vein of Galen malformations from a maternal fetal medicine, cardiology, and neonatal perspectives.
  2. Learn how to differentiate fetal bradycardia and fetal tachycardia etiologies and choose the best monitoring and therapeutic approach.
  3. Consider how best to diagnose a vascular ring in the fetus, when to intervene and identify the long term benefits of early surgical intervention.
  4. Discuss which patients with complex ventricular anatomy are best suited for division into a two-ventricle repair and how this can be assessed in fetal life.
  5. Review the leading complications and interventions possible in monochorionic twin gestation from both maternal fetal medicine and cardiac perspectives.
  6. Gain experience with a hands on, live fetal echocardiography workshop.
