Course Overview
This course will cover the latest developments in the field of stroke, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies. Topics will include changes in stroke systems of care, including stroke center certification and EMS developments. Lectures will be pertinent for all professionals caring for stroke patients, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

Objectives
  1. Recognize obstructive sleep apnea as a risk factor for ischemic stroke
  2. Discuss the use of CT angiography in the selection of patients for endovascular stroke therapy.
  3. Discuss the use of MRI in acute stroke diagnosis.
  4. Explain new developments in minimally invasive approaches for intracerebral hemorrhage
  5. Recognize the differences between prior trials of endovascular therapy for ischemic stroke, and the results of more recent trials.
  6. Discuss advances in the tools for endovascular therapy of ischemic stroke.
  7. Understand the current usage of imaging techniques to identify potential stroke treatment.
  8. Assess how recent research impacts blood pressure management in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.
  9. Recognize the advantages and limitations of new or target specific anticoagulants.
  10. Discuss quality measures to improve the recognition of stroke in the emergency department.
  11. Identify the recent changes to the list of contraindications to the use of IV TPA.
  12. Discuss the use of IV TPA beyond three hours of onset.
  13. Discuss how EMS can be vital in the future of stroke systems of care.
