Colorectal Cancer Screening in the Post-Pandemic Era

Hear from C5 members about challenges and opportunities around colorectal cancer screening in the post-pandemic era and what primary care providers can do moving forward to increase successful screening. We will review the new NYC DOHMH and USPSTF guidelines for appropriate colorectal screening.

1. Highlight the NYC screening guidelines and the updated USPSTF guidelines.
2. Describe NYC screening rates pre-COVID-19.
3. Identify the barriers of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening during the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities.
4. List the steps to obtaining a colonoscopy including triaging symptoms and family history prior to screening, pre-procedure clearance, and other considerations for the PCP.
5. Compare colorectal cancer (CRC) testing alternatives.
6. Review common pitfalls and challenges in CRC screening and discuss ways to address them including through the use of telehealth.
