Course Overview
This is a longitudinal monthly program zoom conference. This program intended for faculty who have an oversight role in the area of graduate medical education regarding trainee well-being and are seeking the skills and knowledge to enhance new or existing GME well-being initiatives with a particular focus on the impact of COVID-19 and recent attention to the impact of racism. This interactive, skills-based program places special attention on the development of comprehensive GME well-being programs that meet the ACGME Section VI Common Program Requirements on Well-Being and address issues related to anti-racism and the pandemic. The course is intended to equip all participants with an action plan for next steps by the program's conclusion and will include sufficiently new content to benefit course participants from last year.

Objectives

·         Understand our individual human response when faced with crisis and uncertainty.

·         Describe tactics and strategies to cultivate individual well-being at emotional and cognitive levels.

·         Develop an individualized skill set (Tool Kit) that can be deployed to promote individual well-being.

·         Translate these skills for optimizing individual well-being into positive action at attendee’s home institution.

  1. Apply Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to understanding how our needs change when faced with a crisis.
  2. Be able to identify adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies that can be utilized during times of crisis.
  3. Use frameworks like Post Traumatic Stress Growth and the Growth Mindset to reframe situations to promote well-being and resilience.
  4. Generate an individualized list of one’s own adaptive strategies.
  5. Apply positive psychology research and strategies to amplify the silver-linings that emerge in a crisis.
  6. List of up to three individual well-being commitments that attendees will attempt to implement into their work roles.
  7. Develop a plan for promoting and teaching individual well-being strategies at their home institution.
