Course Overview
This full-day virtual symposium provides clinicians in the tri-state community with a comprehensive review of cutting-edge practices in the diagnosis, genetics, and management of movement disorders. A broad spectrum of diseases including Parkinson disease, tremor, dystonia, and ataxia will be addressed. Through didactic lecture, video review, and interactive breakout sessions with expert clinicians, attendees will learn about current medical and cutting-edge diagnostic and management strategies including chemodenervation and deep brain stimulation (DBS).

Objectives
  1. Recognize the clinical presentations (abnormal movements) that characterize movement disorders.
  2. Devise an appropriate diagnostic and management strategy for the patient with Parkinson disease.
  3. Describe an appropriate movement disorder candidate for DBS (deep brain stimulation) surgical intervention.
  4. Describe the assessment and management strategy for a patient with ataxia.
  5. Discuss current treatment approaches to dystonia including local injections of botulinum toxin and deep brain stimulation (DBS).
  6. Discuss the new essential tremor classification system and treatment options for essential tremor, including deep brain stimulation and magnetic resonance imaging guided high intensity focused ultrasound.
