Course Overview
The Medication Safety Summit brings together clinicians and leaders to advance safer medication practices across the health system. Through keynotes and a fireside chat with patient-safety advocate Chris Jerry, the program pairs powerful lived-experience storytelling with practical, system-focused sessions on high-risk areas like anticoagulation safety, alert fatigue and the Pyxis problem, and the current state of medication safety at Mount Sinai. Interspersed with interactive stations the summit is designed to turn shared learning into concrete next steps that strengthen medication safety for patients and staff alike.

Objectives
  1. Apply evidence-based strategies for anticoagulation monitoring and risk mitigation to reduce the occurrence of anticoagulant-related adverse events.
  2. Evaluate medication-related clinical decision support alerts and distinguish high-priority alerts requiring intervention from those contributing to alert burden.
  3. Implement at least one evidence-based strategy to optimize medication safety processes within their clinical practice or healthcare setting.
  4. Incorporate lessons learned from medication safety events and near misses into quality improvement initiatives designed to reduce preventable medication errors.
  5. Utilize interdisciplinary medication safety practices to improve the identification and prevention of medication-related harm across the continuum of care.
  6. Integrate evidence-based medication safety interventions into clinical workflows to enhance patient safety and reduce the risk of adverse drug events.
