Introduction to Caring for Transgender Patients in the Emergency Department

The purpose of this lecture series is to address and close knowledge gaps for Emergency Department providers by developing the skills and knowledge base to provide culturally competent care for transgender patients presenting to the Emergency Department after gender affirmation surgery.

1. Improve Emergency Department provider knowledge around providing culturally competent care to transgender patients in the Emergency Department.
2. Understand barriers to care for transgender patients presented to the Emergency Department for medical care.
3. Identify and treat post-surgical complications related to gender affirmation surgery in the Emergency Department.
4. Improve transgender patient experience in the Emergency Department and decreased ED avoidance by transgender patients by improving provider knowledge and cultural competence around caring for transgender patients.
