Course Overview

The course is designed to educate and review the basic and advanced principles of bedside POCUS via hands on practical lab experience. The curriculum has been set up to provide each participant the opportunity to review pathology via imaging interpretation -- as well a participant to faculty ratio of 3:1. Live models are provided so that a real-life experience is achieved.


Objectives
  1. Acquire proficiency in performing core POCUS applications.
  2. Identify indications and rationale for performing the following examinations: pulmonary ultrasound, focused cardiac ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound and evaluation of lower extremities.
  3. Describe the principles of ultrasound operation, artifacts and image optimization.
  4. Perform image acquisition of focused cardiac, lung, hepatobiliary, kidneys and bladder, lower extremity vessels, IVC and abdominal aortic structures.
  5. Interpret normal and abnormal images for the applications of focused cardiac, lung, hepatobiliary, kidney and bladder, lower extremity vessels, IVC and abdominal aortic structures.
  6. Interpret POCUS findings in clinical case scenarios.
  7. Identify ultrasound-based algorithms for clinical diagnosis.

Registration
Registration is complimentary but must be completed online.

Accreditation

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
