Course Overview
The Mount Sinai Respiratory Institute is offering a comprehensive two-day course on advanced
topics in pulmonary medicine. The course is specifically designed for pulmonologists, advanced
practice providers, as well as primary care physicians. The course syllabus covers a wide range
of subjects, including current diagnostic and treatment strategies for interstitial lung disease,
COPD, asthma, lung cancer, bronchiectasis, and respiratory failure. Renowned experts will
delve into the recent advances in oral therapies for ILD, as well as advancements in pulmonary
hypertension, asthma, and COPD. An esteemed keynote speaker will deliver a state-of-the-art
lecture on current and future perspectives of pulmonary medicine. To enhance practical skills,
there will be workshops focusing on patient access, point-of-care diagnostics for sleep apnea,
and remote patient monitoring.

Objectives
  1. Describe the role of the pulmonologist in diagnosis and management of progressive interstitial fibrotic lung diseases
  2. Explain the management of interstitial lung abnormalities detected incidentally on CT as recommended on a position paper from the Fleischner Society
  3. Describe the management of critically ill hospitalized patients with Covid
  4. Compare the workup and treatment options of patients with pulmonary hypertension
  5. Discuss and apply the current literature regarding the management of the obesity hypoventilation syndrome
  6. Identify steps to take when triple therapy with corticosteroids, long-actine beta agonists and muscarinic antagonists are not resulting in effectiveness for severe asthma
  7. Discuss the considerations for referring patients for lung transplant evaluation
  8. Discuss strategies for preventing asthma exacerbations in mild and moderate asthma
  9. Recognize and manage patients with difficult to control asthma.
  10. Explain the latest recommendations from the GOLD COPD Guidelines
  11. Describe the current guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of acute pulmonary embolism
  12. Identify the principles of prevention and management of the acute exacerbation of COPD
  13. Explain the clinical presentations, treatments and outcomes of Stage IV Lung Cancer
  14. Outline the advances and state of the art approach of high flow oxygen therapy
  15. Describe the pathogenesis of bronchiectasis and the treatment modalities that have proven successful
  16. Explain the approach to the patient with non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease
  17. Discuss the CHEST Guidelines on the workup and treatment of chronic cough
  18. Explain the phenotypes of high lung cancer risk and importance of CT screening
  19. Describe diseases of the trachea and advances in diagnosis and treatment
