Course Overview
The Spring Course is devoted to a review of the most compelling topics in gastroenterology, endoscopy, and liver disease as presented during Digestive Disease Week®, June 2-5, 2018. At this event, the most significant data from national and international research efforts is presented, affording attendees a first look at critically important information on new drugs, the etiology and pathophysiology of disease states, the epidemiology of diseases, the medical, surgical and endoscopic treatment of disease, and the social impact of disease states in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, and GI surgery. The program includes a video forum of new endoscopic techniques as well as a summary of the major topics presented at the most important academic forum in gastroenterology, making for an invaluable educational experience for those who were unable to attend Digestive Disease Week® and an excellent summary review for those who were there.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the spectrum of commonly seen disorders of the esophagus and stomach, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, and motility disorders, and outline related treatment options and their effectiveness.
  2. Evaluate advances in the methods of assessing disease status in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, and discuss the application of these techniques to patient treatment.
  3. Discuss the efficacy and safety of treatments for viral hepatitis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and other chronic liver disorders.
  4. Identify appropriate methods to detect and treat common disorders of the small bowel and colon, such as colon polyps, as well as endobariatric therapy for obesity and review the effectiveness of these approaches.
  5. Examine the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of current and emerging advanced endoscopic techniques to diagnose and treat disorders of the hepatobiliary tract, pancreas, and luminal gastrointestinal tract, and to detect and manage obscure upper and lower GI bleeding.
