Course Overview
The hidden public health epidemic of violence against children, including sexual abuse and exploitation, is one of the root causes of mental health and substance abuse problems later in life. This conference will highlight the issue of violence and exploitation against minors and focus on practical strategies to raise awareness and understanding, prevention, identification and education to end violence against young people. The conference will provide opportunities for collaboration with the hopes of spurring practitioners, policy makers, governments, academia, civil society and the private sector to join forces and scale up investments in solutions that target the well-being of children.

Objectives
  1. Explain estimated scope, risk factors for and drivers of the problem of violence against children and the psychological, health , and social consequences.
  2. Utilize interviewing strategies and knowledge of how victims of child sexual abuse may present to assess and identify victims and promote their ethical treatment.
  3. Describe various educational, prevention, mental health, legal, and social services interventions and responses targeted to victims of child abuse, especially of sexual abuse and exploitation, and refer/report accordingly.
  4. Practitioners will be familiar with state-of-the-art information on child abuse and neglect and acquainted with resources for recognizing, reporting and treating child abuse according to evidence-based guidelines.
  5. Obtain an appropriate history in suspected child abuse cases and accurately document abuse in medical records.
